Underground Fitness Transforms Business with the Help of myVolo Software, Brivo Integration and the myVolo Support Team

Underground Fitness is Stamford’s first 24-hour Fitness facility. The gym offers all the perks of a big gym chain in a private gym setting — from the latest cardio and strength training equipment, to a variety of instructional classes and a 24-hour tanning salon.

THE CHALLENGE:
Underground Fitness found itself at a crossroads in 2010. At a time when the U.S. recession made it extremely difficult to bring in new business, local big-box gyms entered the market with low enrollment fees and monthly dues. In order to compete and grow, Underground had to change direction — to transform from a small, high-end Personal Training studio into a larger facility that maintained a private gym feel and offered lower-priced membership options.

An integral part of their new business vision was the software they would use. Underground required a business management software that would scale with their business as it grew and was flexible and easy enough to work with during their transition period.

THE SOLUTION:
Hitting a plateau of 176 members, Underground Fitness shifted gears in 2010. As a first step, Director of Operations, Shane Nizzardo, set up new membership packages in myVolo software and worked with the myVolo support team for direction.

We needed to reinvent ourselves — determine which packages we should get rid of, what packages to keep, figure out what made sense for our business. The myVolo team was there for input and made things happen.”

THE RESULT:
Since transforming its business model, Underground Fitness has achieved massive success. “I was using myVolo software back when we had 176 members. Now we have over 2,200 members.”

Underground Fitness continues to evolve. Today, the gym is a 24-hour operation.

We use Brivo for 24-hour door security management and myVolo software for every other aspect of our gym — billing, payroll, marketing, scheduling, taxes, sales. Brivo and myVolo software are integrated and work together really well.”

Having both systems integrated and online gives Shane complete control from wherever he happens to be.

If there’s a snow storm or some sort of emergency and I need to lock the facility, I hit one button on my phone to lock up the gym. And with myVolo being online, I have access to the software anytime I need it. There have been times I’ve been out with friends, telling them about Underground Fitness and they’ve ended up wanting to join the gym. I’ve been able to sign them up right then and there. They just hand me their credit card, and I sign them up on my cell phone through myVolo.
